We believe that automation created by combining robotics, perception systems, and artificial intelligence will usher in the next industrial revolution by connecting the digital world to the physical world. We think of this as the Augmented Automation Revolution. Like the steam engine, electricity, and the silicon computer chip, this automation revolution will impact every industry and many aspects of our daily lives.

Massive investments are being made in companies working to disrupt global industries like transportation and logistics through augmented automation. These investments have spawned additional companies supporting these efforts. Such companies include manufacturers of computer vision sensors like LIDAR and cameras, as well as developers of the perception software so critical in successful robotic automation.

We believe that, for companies building or utilizing computer vision systems for robotic automation, there is a critical need for products and services that improve the safety, accuracy, speed, and overall cost of these systems.


About Us

In 2016 a group of scientists and engineers at The University of Michigan began work on technologies and processes to improve the perception systems within autonomous automation applications. This team invented and patented new technologies and worked with engineers to create processes and methodologies for improving robotic computer vision systems. The team specifically focused on improving optical sensors like camera and LIDAR to allow perception systems to achieve object recognition faster and more accurately (fewer false positives and negatives), while using less computing power and reducing the economic cost of sensors in general.

This team launched Photon Semantics in 2018 to provide technology, process, and services to industries working on augmented automation computer vision systems. These industries include transportation, warehousing, logistics, healthcare, military, agriculture, security, recycling, and many others.


What We Do

Photon Semantics provides patented products and services designed to improve the speed, accuracy, safety, and cost of optical perception sensor systems. We work with companies who are seeking to improve their computer vision systems. Through a proof of concept ranging in cost from $100,000 to $500,000, we create and test a framework to provide a benchmark of performance improvement and an integration strategy. Our technology is licensed on a per camera/LIDAR/radar basis. Our typical engagements include the following phases: Proof of Concept, Integration, a Go-to-Market Fee, and Ongoing Managed Services.
